== Info ==
- Report bugs/oddities here
- If you are interested in helping translate Beats, see below
- Include explanations with tweak suggestions
- Post large feature suggestions on the Beats Portable forums
- Check the To-Do list at http://beatsportable.com/todo/

== Install ==
Uninstall any previous official release and install the latest test
build from below
http://beatsportable.com/static/testing/beats-r482.apk
I've (ironically) un-static'd the /static folder so that you can
actually browse files now. http://beatsportable.com/static/testing/
will list all old test versions/files while http://beatsportable.com/static/releases/
will list all released versions.

== Translate ==
If you are interested in translating Beats to a non-English language,
please join the translation project at crowdin:
http://crowdin.net/project/beats
The strings are separated into three files:
arrays_trans.xml - these are the options used by settings
settings_trans.xml - these are settings names, descriptions,
categories
strings_trans.xml - these are game texts
Note that translations do NOT have to be approved (for the time being)
but if you notice any mistranslations or phrases that could be better
translated, feel free to change them.
Languages needing of translations: French, German, Japanese, Korean

== Changes since r471 ==
- updated translations
- updated UHL (Immersion's TouchSense)
- fixed menu text reloading when language changed
- updated AdMob and MobFox (I think? Need more experimenting once I
reflash my phone with 2.2)
- added Vibrate on Hold setting
- fixed a miss bug for early taps
- reduce Java garbage collector cleanups - may lessen lag spikes?
- built-in screenshot mode

== Comments ==
Translations have been sync'd with crowdin. You'll notice quite a few
translations missing/incomplete - go fix em up!

The TouchSense library has been updated once again to the latest UHL
stuff. Hopefully all the feedback from Beats has helped iron out all
the lag spike bugs and issues. From my testing at least, there didn't
seem to be any more problems and vibrations were flawless and nice-
feeling. The vibration for holds still needs to be tweaked a bit -
this will be done later. Mainly I just want to make sure that the
TouchSense/UHL/not-sure-what-to-call-it-anymore vibrations aren't
causing any more lag spikes.

The other thing I want tested is the new screenshot feature. To enable
Screenshot Mode, go Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Screenshot Mode -
> On. With Screenshot Mode, whenever you pause during gameplay (by
pressing your phone's MENU or SEARCH button), a timestamped PNG
screenshot is saved to the Beats/Screenshot folder. Still debating on
the format of the screenshot's filename, but its currently
"yyyyMMdd'-'HHmmssSSS'.png'". Feedback on this would be nice. Here's a
few example screenshots taken using the new feature:

I'll be starting my summer internship next week, so no idea how much
free time I'll be having. In the meanwhile, will work on .dwi support
(and maybe .osu support if I finish early) for the next few days, but
pretty much no more plans on any other major features (other than
Scoreloop). The rest of the things on the http://beatsportable.com/todo/
list will be for Beats2/Beats Portable http://code.google.com/p/beatsportable/

Yess, works like a charm now (still don't know why the previous version didn't work with cm7), and finally the early miss bug fixed so I could finally manage these  screenshots ^_^
As for screens I'd like to see name of the song and author in filenames so it could be like this: %author%-%song%-%timestamp%

When I tryed to download this from my browser it just gave a bunch of
text but I downloaded on my droid x. Don't know if that's a problem or
not just thought you should know.

The update note is fine - I updated the version number in the test version but not on the server (since 1.6 isn't released officially as of yet). And no, I currently am not following any consistent version numbering system - its all arbitrary atm at my discretion ; P

The download text thing would be a browser sided thing, since .apk is not an officially recognized MIME type (your browser thinks it is a text file). You have to right click and save link as. Your phone browser probably handles that automatically.

On a side note, UHL stuff is being polished up, .dwi support is complete and just needs a bit more testing, and I will stay and hopefully start .osu support this weekend (no sliders or spinners though - that will require a bit of having here and there). Beats 1.6 will be released before Monday with all updates til now and hopefully include those three things. Translators, try to finish up before then ; )

@Kyle: To download to your computer, try right click> save target as.
Worked for me.

As for the new version of Beats, I pretty much have nothing to say.
I've been trying to think of something ever since i downloaded it. ;-)

The only issues I'm srill having I'm fairly sure has to do with me
having a small phone (sometimes an arrow seems to stick when I'm
trying to hit the one next to it in quick succession or after a hold).
I personally don't see much use in the screenshot feature, but as an
intermediate to an actual high scores setting, I can understand qby
people might like it. Interestingly (hey, I found something to say
after all!) the game also takes a screenshot if it pauses for another
reason, for instance when the phone interrupts gameplay to tell you it
has a low battery.

I'll have to get onto the Dutch translation, too. I saw some of the
Dutch phrases are a bit long for the menu.

A late update, but Beats 1.6b (r506) is out, and it contains a lot of cool new features that I snuck in ; P (unfortunately that means most of them haven't been thoroughly tested, so get cracking! http://beatsportable.com/2011/05/beats-1-6b/

.Osu support, wheee!

.Osu files work great. A delight to play. Now just to download a
whopping lot of them :-). And the .dwi support is also appreciated,
because I had a few .dwi only files on my phone that I kept running
into as unplayable. They are so no longer. Thank you!

I also really like the way .osu files convert to Stepmania mode. They
actually generate pretty decent stepfiles. So now we almost have a
complete standard to interconvert between the two formats. :-)

Now on to the niggles:

I haven't had any problems in .osu mode yet, but I ran into some
random lag in stepmania mode. There weren't even all that many notes
on screen, so I can't guess at what triggered it. This kind of lag
seemed to be gone in the previous version, but it's back.

The judgments of tap accuracy are no longer translated! Even though I
have the language set to Dutch, the judgments appear in English. And
the 'Default' language option is now English, not whatever language
your phone is set to (if available, of course).

That's it so far. Thanks for all the hard work,

Another fairly big one.

So far, I've been playing on default settings. Last night though, I
turned 'jumps' back on for some .sm files. This morning, when I tried
to open an .osu file, I got ta NullPointerException:null error
message.

I'd been fiddling around with more settings, but Osu files loaded
again as soon as I switched the jumps off, so I'm fairly sure it's
related to that.

Jumps +.osu + osu! Mod bug and Almost combo-breaking bug fixed in 1.6.1b (I think). Vibrations also changed and shouldn't cause any more lag now - the root issue turned out to be upstream in the main Android source code and not mine. Pretty much the implementation of android.os.Vibrator (for the Samsung 2.1/2.2 build at least) throws exceptions occasionally during periodic vibration events, and these exceptions lag the phone drastically (VIBE_E_SERVICE_BUSY). Not sure whether or not its OEM/hardware specific though or so will have to do a bit more investigation before filing a bug report.

If you find any specific .osu files parsing incorrectly, please let me know (and link me to the exact file).
