If your young child suffers from eczema, you've probably wondered how
to help them get rid of it. They're itching-scratching-itching, and
feel miserable, while you're miserable because you can't seem to help
them. It's a frustrating cycle for everyone involved, but there are
three things you can do to help your child get rid of eczema itching
and discomfort almost immediately.
Identify Environmental Triggers
At its core, eczema is an allergy-related condition. You can improve
your child's eczema symptoms dramatically just by identifying common
household allergens that might be making the condition worse. Wash
bedsheets and clothes regularly in an unscented, hypo-allergenic
detergent. You should also make sure that your child avoids wearing
clothes made from synthetic material. 100% organic cotton or 100%
cotton are ideal for sensitive, allergy-prone skin. Many stores are
now carrying 100% organic cotton at very affordable prices.
Monitor Your Child's Diet
Since eczema is an allergy-related skin condition, you should
definitely monitor what foods your child eats on a regular basis. To
help your child get rid of eczema, it may be necessary for your
child's allergist to conduct food allergy tests. Many parents have
identified dairy and wheat allergies as triggers for eczema flareups.
Moisturize The Skin Regularly
The constant scratching that eczema causes results in red, irritated,
dry skin. It's not uncommon for parents to find their child's bed
sheets smeared with blood from the intense scratching. That's why it
is important to frequently moisturize the skin to help repair any
tissue damage. One effective skin moisturizer perfect for children is
aloe vera. Apply some aloe vera gel to areas affected by eczema
several times per day. This will help to temporarily soothe the
itching and inflammation that eczema causes.
Eczema is a frustrating and painful skin condition, but identifying
environmental factors that trigger your child's eczema, along with
monitoring diet and moisturizing the skin are three things that can
temporarily improve eczema discomfort.
