Dear Remco and all,

I am wondering with the SNAPPER  as a term. Is it an abbreviation such as SNAPP which stands for "SNP and AFLP Package for Phylogenetic analysis" or not. If yes, what is the expansion of SNAPPER. I think I did not find it in the paper (Stoltz, M., Baeumer, B., Bouckaert, R., Fox, C., Hiscott, G., and Bryant, D. (2021). Bayesian Inference of Species Trees using Diffusion Models. Systematic Biology 70, 145–161. doi: 10.1093/sysbio/syaa051) or probably I missed it.

I was asked by the editor for the manuscript that I submitted to expand all abbreviations that I used.

Thank you for the answer.

Best,
Yayan

Hi Yayan,

Snapper is kind of based on SNAPP (which is an acronym) but snapper itself is not an acronym. It is the name of the algorithm.

Also, from David Bryant  the brain behind Snapper — I understand it is statement about the OOA (oversupply of acronyms) in bioinformatics and also a tribute to Peter Gutteridge:

who founded the New Zealand band Snapper.

Cheers,

Remco
