Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I've been trying to follow the tutorial on structured coalescent analysis on https://github.com/CompEvol/MultiTypeTree/wiki/Beginner%27s-Tutorial but when I load the example alignment data into BEAUti (after setting the correct MultiTypeTree template), I can't access or edit the Priors tab at all. The other tabs seem to be working just fine but the Priors tab shows up as blank blue screen without any options available to modify. I followed the instructions in the tutorial, and closed BEAUti after installing/upgrading the MultiTypeTree package.

I am using BEAST2 version 2.3.2 which I believe is the latest version, so I don't think the problem lies within this. Has anyone had the same problem, and possibly found a solution to it?

I have previously ran coalescent models with BEAST using the Standard (SA) template, and BEAUti seems to be working just fine when building the xml files. However, I would like to try the structured coalescent analysis since I'm estimating coalescence times of bottlenose dolphins, which show population structure in coastal areas.

Many thanks in advance,
Milaja

Dear Milaja,

That is indeed strange.  What operating system are you using?  I wonder whether you could try this once more using the latest BEAST version (2.4) and the latest MTT version (6.2)?  There's been a BEAST version upgrade recently, as well as an MTT version upgrade, and although it's not clear to me why things shouldn't be working with the versions you're using, it'd be best to try again using the more recent versions to see if this makes a difference.  (I've just tried out the tutorial using the latest versions and don't seem to be able to replicate the problem you're seeing.)

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Tim,

And sorry for the late reply, I'm new to Google groups, and didn't realize that you had replied to my post!

Thank you very much for your helpful reply, I downloaded the newest version of BEAST2 and the problem disappeared.

Again, many thanks,
Milaja
