Any suggestion on how to best represent a stock split/reverse split?

For added fun the institution (National Financial Services/myStreetscape.com, run by Fidelity) doesn't include any indication of these splits in the OFX data (not sure if that is typical), so I'll have to retrieve that from somewhere else.

To represent splits, write a single transaction that empties the position to zero and refills it with the adjusted cost basis and number of units. The cost basis before and after should match so the transaction will balance. Of you want to preserve the acquisition date or the original date in the new lots.

One choice you have is whether you want to keep the same symbol pre and post split. If you keep the same symbol the price database will show a drop in price over time. If not, choose a new symbol for the post split period. So far in my own file I use the same symbol but I think eventually I'd like to find a way to differentiate them automatically and have a multiplier in the price database, because doing it manually is not nice. In any case both methods work.

BTW there may be an example of splits in the trading document. If not I can write one later.
