Hi guys. I'm new to beancount and fava. Currently reading all the docs and I'm now slowly creating my journal.
I have one doubt that I couldn't find an answer and I hope this is the right place to ask and that you guys can help.
Now with version 3, bean-price is a new package that I need to install separately, I understand that. My question is if there is something in fava that runs and updates prices automatically or if I need to run the bean-price command in the CLI when I want it.
Thank you in advance.

I was confused about that as well when I first started (about a month ago). The gotcha is fava support for beancount version 3 is still in progress. The current version of fava (version 1.29) supports beancount version 2. If you install fava via pip it will install beancount along side fava. Beancount version 2 includes bean-price as part of the installation, no additional repositories needed.

Here are the commands from my notes, that I ran to get started on a fresh Debian container:
apt-get update
apt-get install python3-pip
pip3 install fava
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin

Run Fava:
fava -H 0.0.0.0 example.beancount

To answer this part of your question, I don't believe there is anything in fava that automatically executes bean-price. I believe that you still need price directives added to your ledger. You can add those manually, during transaction import or with bean-price. There's also a tool listed as part of the lazy-beancount project that states it can fetch prices for you on demand via a UI extension to fava, but I haven't used it yet.

Thank you. I will just do it with bean-price, it's just a matter of copying the entries to the file, not a big deal.
