Hello everyone! I'm a Computer Science student from Brazil. I really would like to participate in GSoC 2019 with Beam Commmunity because I think the ideas from previous years are very interesting. Could someone please give me some help to get started? Thanks!

Hey Igor,

applications for organizations will open on Jan 15th, so there's some time to wait still :). After we apply and projects are announced, student applications open (in March). Let me know if you need any more details!

Hello Andrea!

Thank you for replying. Yes, I know about the deadlines, but I wish to start contributing early. My doubt is what the members from Beam Community interested in GSoC 2019 are working on at the moment, or which ideas does the community plan on developing for GSoC. Thanks!

Hi Igor,

There are quite some different projects.

At Zotonic we are currently working on deep integration of MQTT and encrypted communication over MQTT.
You can check the presentation [1] for more details.

I am sure we will have quite some projects spun off from this.

Cheers,

Marc

Hello, Igor!

Keep on tracking this mailing list for updates. This year I participated in the GSoC and it was very a very pleasant experience, I've learned a lot.

My project was the Elixir Bench, I hope it will be available again for the students, albeit it became idle the past days. Take a look and see if you have interest on it.

Cheers,
Tallys Martins

Hi Marc!

Thanks for the message. Your work involving MQTT seems very promising, looking forward to see the sort of project it can originate!

Cheers,

Igor

Hi Tallys!

Thanks I'll make sure to follow the mailing list. ElixirBench seems cool, it must have been very fun to make! Are you planning to participate again next year?

Cheers,

Igor

I don't think I will have the time to do so. But I will be around to give any help. :)

Hi, Kanishkar!

Thanks for your interest and sorry for the late reply. To be honest, I don't know if ElixirBench will be eligible for GSoC 2019, but the more interested students appear, more chances we have. You can write your own proposal to work on it, by the way, even if its not in the list of available projects.

If you want to get started with the project, try to follow the install instructions and take a look at the code base, specially the server api, its easier to start from there. Then you can join our slack channel #elixir-bench (under the elixir-lang group) so we can discuss some open issues, what you think? :)

Cheers,
Tallys
