Hi I know Beaker has good reasons to hide the private keys from its users. I also understood that my public key is the only way to ensure the rights to edit the pages and sites I made.
I want to be sure can edit the content I publish in the future, whatever happen to my machine, for that I need to know where my private key is and back it up, right? Can you help?

Hi Raphaël!

Yeah it's not ideal right now. We're waiting for a protocol enhancement called "Multiwriter." That will make it possible to authorize multiple devices to control a dat. Each one will have its own private keys.

If you're looking for a way to backup your beaker data, you can find the data directory path in the settings page. Make sure you only back it up into cold storage. If two beaker instances run at the same time with the same private keys, even on 2 devices, you can accidentally corrupt your data.

Thank you for your answer.
Should I understand that I need more than a private key to ensure a possible future recovery of my data? If yes, what are the files I will need in this data directory folder?

Technically all that's needed (assuming others mirror the dataset in full) is the private key.  But my understanding for beaker is there is no way to easily restore an archive with just the private key. I once lost my fritter profile this way.  I might have been able to manually restore things with lots of digging through beaker source code and manually recreating data using other dat libraries and my backed up private key.

Backing up the entire beaker data folder is safest.

Paul might be able to be more specific on what parts of the data folder are needed exactly.
