Bluetooth audio not playing

We connected a bluetooth speaker to the Beaglebone Green Wireless and tried to play a sample .wav audio file using aplay and there was no sound. We tried using other audio players as well such as mplayer, with the same results. Aplay appears to be  trying to play the audio file, but when we use mplayer it keeps saying "Audio device got stuck!" Any suggestions?
