Beaglebone power

This may be a dumb question, but I’d rather err on the side of caution here. I’m rather new to using a beaglebone black and I’d want to know if it was a safe practice to power the beaglebone via the barrel jack and still have the mini usb connected to a computer? The 2A draw capability of the barrel jack would allow me to properly power a usb peripheral and I’d still be able to talk to the beaglebone by ssh-ing over the mini usb at the same time.

its just fine. the pmic IC handles all the power switching
