Are slots supposed to be used in new designs on the BBB ?  The reason I ask is because of this doc:

It's unclear to me whether this means slots just moved or are they going away along with kernel overlays ?
I'm just learning the BBB and Linux - Should I be ignoring web search results docs and videos that reference slots ?

Yeap, "slots" are gone. They relied on Kernel Overlays which have
been ripped out.

Everything is now done in U-Boot.

Well, our reliance on them is gone with us doing it all in u-boot, but some portion made it upstream.

I did an example at e-ALE classes at SCaLE last year.

Doesn’t change that we no longer rely on it for Beagle capes.
