EEPROM Serial Number for cape

The SRM states (in 8.2.4)  State the serial number should be WWYY&&&&nnnn is that a requirement or can I use my own serial number?

I am asking because I want to get my cape approved https://beagleboard.org/approved

You can use your own, but it is a general recommendation. Feel free to adjust.
