Hi All,

I am new to BeagleBone and Linux, and am working on a project with a BeagleBone AI.

Out of the box the BB AI suggests an IoT Linux distribution which does not include a graphical interface.

Can anyone recommend a Linux desktop (including GUI) that can be deployed onto the BBAI, ideally with some guidance on any special steps required to install it.

I am flexible on the OS (Ubutnu, Debian etc)

Many thanks

Ade.

I wasn't happy with it at the time of the April 2020 release, so it
wasn't included in that time frame.. For our up-coming August it'll be
back..

Here's an early version, just use etcher.io to flash it to a microSD
and insert it into the BBAI

Hi Robert

Thanks for sharing the Debian GUI image.

I did have a question, I previously attempted to update the IoT image on the BB AI using the SD card method and was not successful.

When you insert the SD card then boot the BB AI should you hold down any buttons to force a certain boot mode, or should it just directly boot from the SD and install the image?

Many thanks

Adrian.

Which image did you have on the SD card?

Inserting an image with uEnv.txt configured to activate the flasher
mode has worked for me for some three (going on four?) years on BBB
(without touching the boot select button), and for the BB AI which doesn't
even have a boot select button.

I think the last time I needed the boot select on a BBB was when
upgrading to the last edition of Wheezy -- from a time when the eMMC u-boot
/did not/ check for an SD card from which to complete booting.

https://rcn-ee.net/rootfs/bb.org/testing/ pick a date, and check for a
BBAI LXQT image. Granted, these aren't considered production images (the
production images are what the manufacturers are pre-loading on the
boards).
