BeagleBone White Debian missing pins

 I'm running Debian on a Beaglebone White and cannot get the HDMI and audio pins to show up under /sys/devices/platform/ocp/. Debian doesn't seem to have the slots file available under
/sys/devices/platform/bone_capemgr, so I can't try one of the other universal capes. Is there another way to enable the pins?

I also tried an Ubuntu image, but that gave me errors when I tried to load the universal capes. I unfortunately did not write the errors down and don't remember what they were. I prefer Debian anyway.
