Mainline Kernel or TI-Kernel

Hi,

why is there a special TI version of the Linux-Kernel? Is there a list of what is expected to not work properly when using a mainline kernel version?

I am thinking about trying 4.17 but I want to avoid weeks of debugging ;-)
