UPDATES ON RANKED CHOICE VOTING IN ARIZONA
BILL INTRODUCED TO LEGISLATURE:
REPUBLICAN Rep Tim Dunn from LD13, Sponsored / introduced HB2378 to the AZ legislature that would use Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in the Presidential Preference primary
Ranked Choice Voting in the Presidential Primary ensures that all Arizonans votes count.
- In 2016 thousands of Arizonans voted for Republican candidates who had already dropped out of the race
- In 2020 thousands of Arizonans voted for Democratic candidates who had already dropped out of the race
- Ranked Choice Voting allows Arizonans to rank order ALL of their partisian primary candidates, ensuring their preference is counted, even if their first choice dropped out.
- Ranked Choice Voting is being used successfully in other states for Presidential primaries.
- Democrats this year used it in Alaska, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, and Wyoming
- Republicans used it in Utah, Indiana, and Virginia
- 72% of Utah republicans preferred Ranked Choice Voting
