UPC doet die portscans af en toe ook hoor, niet 'in het wild', enkel gericht
wanneer een abuse klacht is binnengekomen of wanneer een abnormaal hoge
upstream traffiek opgemerkt wordt.

i beg to differ, since installing ZoneAlarm i have noticed quite a few
'pings'
coming from chello addresses, and i do not upload except for email!

A ping is not a port scan. A port scan is an attempt to connect to a certain
TCP port on your PC (25 for smpt, 21 for ftp, 80 for http,... ) to check if
you have a server service running. A ping merely proves that a host is up or
down. Nothing more, nothing less.
