Barconet Broadband Access Division
Barconet Broadband Access Division, formerly known as The industree
BV, was set up just over three years ago by a group of dynamic young
people with a burning desire to make the best and fastest broadband data
communication systems in the world. The company's location - on the campus
of the highly regarded Technical University of Eindhoven - couldn't have
been more ideal. This Dutch city has a well-earned reputation for
technological innovation, making it ideally suitable for locating a young,
enthusiastic company working on leading-edge products.

The Barconet Broadband Access Division has grown and matured very quickly,
even in this high-tech age. Its research and development facilities are
state-of-the-art. It develops the latest cable and wireless modem systems
that operate according to the DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) standard
and sells to a growing number of international clients. Its product
development encompasses hardware development but mainly involves the
development of embedded software. And the company's present team of well
over 50 motivated and dedicated developers is set to double by the end of
this year to meet the increasing demand for its innovative broadband
data communication systems.

Product development
The BBA division focuses on the development and marketing of broadband
access systems. The development process includes both hardware and
software development with special emphasis on embedded software. Our
present operations are directed at the development of the next generation
of cable modem systems and the first generation of standardized wireless
local-loop systems.

Software development
encompasses low level hardware-orientated systems and high level
applications (platforms using ARM9 architecture for example). Advanced
modulation techniques such as QPSK and QAM and, at a higher level,
protocols such as TCP/IP and ATM are used. The data communication
systems that we are developing now support Internet, telephony (VoIP
and toll quality telephony), and digital television. Our products ensure the
seamless integration of these advanced services in one broadband access
system. The complex network communication structures are driven and
managed by our Network Management System (CablePilotŽ). This
system can control cable modems in the home using SNMP protocol. The
embedded software is stored in flash memory and so can be updated,
transparently if desired, at the customers premises by a fault-tolerant
software download mechanism. Additional functionality can be added
even in installed cable modems simply by releasing new software.
