There are multiple varieties.. makrana, nathdwara, udaipur etc-2.. the
best ones are from makrana.. the cost varies based on the texture
(degree of whiteness, patterns), quality, size etc.
Tiles are cheapest. 1' x 1' or 1' x 2' - around 30 to 40/- psft.
Larger, individual slabs (area of 5-8 sqft): around 60-80 psft
a monolithic block from where u can get slabs cut - is costlier.. u
can get multiple slabs of 2' x 3' or similar (all slabs have same
design because they come from same block. they create beautiful
pattern across large areas when laid side-by-side)... this costs 100
Rs onwards, upto anything like 200-300-400 psft... but since a big
block is purchased, the extras on the sides would come almost free
(can be used for any wall cladding etc), hence the benefit is that the
nett rate is lower... this option has a catch that one whole block has
to be bought, the seller can give a rough estimate of how much the
block would yield (with 10% variations)...
there are other cheaper marbles from other places, but they have a
tendency to become yellowish after few years (and this yellowishness
is irreversible).
above all. the vendors in bangalore get marble from rajasthan only..
hence they sell at their purchase price plus transport cost plus their
"hefty" margins.. One truck load carries 4000-5000 sq ft of stone,
transport cost ~ 35-40k.. hence 8-12 Rs psft.
