I was just reading this great article from SE Portland (where I came
from and will be moving back to in Nov) about the Tour de Coops this
year. This article includes my friend Sally's coop, and it nicely
demonstrates how easily hens can be kept in the city, without
"ruffling anyone's feathers".

This month Vancouver's City Council is supposed to OK the bylaw that
will legalize chickens. Lets hope the bylaw is a good one.

Yay Chickens!

Thanks, Heather - bummed to hear you're moving, as it'll be our loss!

Do you know if there's a show of support needed in order to ensure the
by-law is passed?

Hi Heather,

Is there any way I could contact your friend Sally (might she have a blog by
any chance?), to chat with her about her coop? We (our family, as well as a
neighbourhood group) are sifting through coop plans and just want a simply,
practical design that is easy to build, use and maintain, but includes an
enclosed space that is large enough for them to roam. Sally's looks
fantastic.

All the best on your move back. BC will miss you.

Mary

Hi all,

I just wanted to let you know about the upcoming poultry show.  Please see the attached poster for times.  It is held in Abbotsford at the Ag-Rec building, located at the fair grounds.  The address is 32470 Haida Drive, Abbotsford.  The building will be open for guests, Saturday October 31, 2009 from 9am-5pm, and Sunday November 1, 2009 from 9am-1pm.  We are also hosting an awards dinner and banquet on Saturday night.  We are expecting around 400 birds this year!!  This is a great event for those interested in the various breeds to come out and see what is raised here and make connections to sources for birds.

If you are interested in entering birds, please contact myself or James at cuve...@shaw.ca for an entry package.  More information about the group is available at www.fvpfa.org.

Fee free to forward this information to anyone else who may be interested.
