BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium 2022 Call for Abstracts

All women students of computing and related subjects[1] are invited to enter one of the poster contests at the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium.
This will be held on Wednesday 13 April 2022, online, hosted by Aberystwyth University, Lancaster University, and London South Bank University.
To enter the poster contest, you will have to write a 250 word abstract on the topic of your poster. The abstract deadline is Friday February 4th 2022.
Your abstract can be on any computing topic you like. We’ve
had submissions on everything from social networking to quantum
computing; from medical image processing to wearable computing (complete
with an Arduino powered skirt). If it involves computers, we’re
interested. If you aren’t sure what a 250 word abstract looks like, we

The poster contests are as follows:
- Best first year poster for students who are in their first year of study at a UK university. This category is also open to students in a Foundation year.
- Best second year poster for students in their second year of study at a UK university (also those on an industrial year or 3rd year of a 4 year degree – basically this is for students between their first and final years).
- Best final year undergraduate poster for students in their final year of study for a BA, BSc, BEng, or in the penultimate year of an MEng (this will often be the 3rd year, but may be the fourth or fifth year, if the student has taken a year abroad, year in industry, or is studying for a 4 year Scottish degree).
- Best Masters student poster for students doing a taught masters degree, or who are in the final year of an MEng or similar integrated 4-5 year course resulting in a masters.
We hope to be able to offer people’s choice prizes as well as first and second place in each category.
The best 100 or so abstracts received will get to present at the event. This year, as we are online, students will be asked to produce a poster (as normal) and a short 2 minute video on their topics. These will be used to judge the poster prizes in advance of the event, which will enable everyone to spend more time networking and enjoying the online poster session on the day, rather than worrying about judges. So, if your abstract is accepted, you will have to submit a PDF poster and a short video by 25th March 2022.

[1] We interpret “Related subjects” very broadly – in the past, we have had students following courses in computer arts, cognitive science, information systems, and a large number of different joint/major/minor programmes of study. If you’re not sure, drop the organisers an email on bcswomen...@gmail.com, we’ll probably say “yes”.
