more question on Customized Quantum Omnidirectional Bar Code Scanner

Hi, any of you all that have this scanner do you all know what the button on top of the scanner does?

For example if you have the bar code scanner setting up and the screen pointing toward you and the USB cable is on the right side at the bottom if you come up on that side and then over to the top and then to the right top side there is a big round button.  What does this button does?

I read about it in a manual many moons ago. Its nothing useful to the average user. Its something to do with putting the scanner into different modes

Nothing useful for anyone scanning UPC bar codes.
