SYNOPSIS

Over the past year, I have learned a great deal about Power Automate, a business process automation tool. While it is intended as an environment in which anyone without specialist skills can create a workflow, I have found that it has possibly the worst software development environment you could imagine and that any requirement that is the slightest bit complicated needs ingenuity to meet. I’d like to pass on some of this learning in case anyone else needs to use this service. I’ll show you the Zühlke internal project that Power Automate was used for, the requirements it tries to meet, and highlight some of its features and their implementation.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Immo has been associated with BCS SPA (formerly BCS OOPS) and its annual conference (formerly OT Conference) since the late 1980s and was elected chair of the group a few years ago. He has been a software developer since 1980, passionate about advancing the state of the art while making the process enjoyable for all concerned. Currently employed by Zühlke Engineering Ltd as a DevOps Engineer, he has worked in multiple industries and technologies and generally manages to find a way to bend even the most contrary software tool to his will - even if the best course of action might be to throw it as far away as possible. When not working or networking, his favourite activities are singing (tenor, if you must know), spending time with his grandchildren, visiting cultural attractions with his wife, and charitable / religious activities.
