The BCS has requested us to bring this series of events to the attention of BCS SPA members:

Our annual Spring School is now open for bookings. It will take place on the four Thursdays in March. The theme is about avoiding project disasters. The sessions include latest research, expert advice and some great case studies about

·         how to avoid problems,

·         how to rescue problematic programmes or projects, and

·         knowing when the best thing to do is scrap the work as soon as possible to reduce the loss.

The 2025 Spring School focuses on avoiding project disasters. Success requires much more than simply applying methodology - it requires knowledge, skills, leadership, governance and maybe good luck (or should we say risk management). There is also the question of what to do when things are going wrong. Could you rescue the situation? Or, ultimately, should you kill it now to cut the losses?

    • On 6th March, highly-experienced programme manager and former partner at KPMG, Oliver Kirby-Johnson, will use case studies (some good, some bad) to lay the foundations for the Spring School and illustrate the “Route To Success” demonstrating how methodology is not a substitute for leadership.
    • For Week 2, 13th March, we have Dr Alexander Budzier, Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School, who will present latest research focusing on how to avoid transformation disasters when managing digital transformations.
    • Week 3 on 20th March sees hybrid practitioner and academic, Dr Sarah Coleman, discussing The Role of Governance in Project Success.
    • Week 4 on 27th March will be a combination of a talk about soft skills and people issues by Mike Weston-Burt and Simon Wallace, followed by an
    • Interactive panel discussion with all the speakers from the four-week programme.

Our spring schools are intended to be educational, informative,  intensive, interactive and network-building.   For that reason we offer this as an in-person programme at the BCS London office (near Moorgate, Liverpool St and Bank stations). As well as the 90 minute conference room sessions, we will withdraw to the lounge for post-event networking with food and drink.

The talks will start at 6:30pm followed by networking from 8pm until 9pm.
