SYNOPSIS

Architecture decisions, implementation decisions, future proofing, career choices, even places to live, are all momentous decisions we need to make in our roles as software engineers. So, we need to think about what's going to happen.

Charles Weir and his team at Lancaster University have been working a project to look into the future and identify what may happen; and in particular what sort of world we should be anticipating. In this workshop, they will help you explore some of trends and less obvious issues they've identified, and to discuss how that could affect your decisions now.

In particular, we’ll examine:
* An overview of possible major new software trends
* Some unexpected consequences
* Discussion of how that may affect you and your projects.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Charles Weir is a developer security researcher with over 30 years of experience in the software industry. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at Security Lancaster, where he leads research on how to improve the security of software delivered by development teams. Charles is experienced in software development, architecture, and design as well as research. He was technical lead for the world's first smartphone, the Ericsson R380; and was app security lead for the world's first Android payments app, EE Cash on Tap.
