Howdy,

In case you missed it, we announced our February 2014 meet up. Brian Zwahr is going to help us figure out the world of test doubles and how we can be smarter about keeping them decoupled from our tests. Please RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/bcsphp/events/162261982/ so we have an idea of how much food to order for the event.

There is a group spinning up in the area called Startup Grind / Aggieland who is hosting an event next Monday, February 17, 2014. For more information please see the meet up event page at http://www.meetup.com/Startup-Grind-College-Station/events/164793662/. Tickets must be purchased for this event.

O'Reilly Media sponsors our group and has sent me two books that are up for grabs. The catch is, to maintain a good relationship with them, after you read the book you should post a public review that I can then link them to. The two titles are PHP Web Services by Lorna Jane Mitchell and Programming the Mobile Web by Maximiliano Firtman. If you are interested in reading and reviewing either of these two books, send me an email or let me know at the meet up.

This past weekend I was out in Miami at SunshinePHP 2014. You missed a great conference. One of the perks of attending this year was a yellow ElePHPant for every attendee. I managed to snag a second yellow ElePHPant for BCSPHP. We'll be giving it away at our next meetup. If you want to start your own collection, here's your chance.

Related, the PHPWomen group is running a Kickstarter as a fundraiser (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/77145396/phpwomen-purple-elephpants). If you aren't familiar with the group it is aimed at helping to involve more women and diversity in the PHP community. Help them out by backing their project and you'll get your own purple ElePHPant.

Finally, LoneStarPHP is coming up in April. Beg your boss, offer to take your significant other, do whatever you have to do to attend. It is worth it. The schedule has been announced and you can see it at http://lonestarphp.com/schedule. April 25-26 in Addison, TX. I hope to see each of you there.

Cheers,
Jeff
