Howdy BCSPHP and UWeb,
Each year the team at php|architect puts together a one-day conference that travels the country. It's a great opportunity to hear presentations by some high-caliber presenters as well as meet and talk with developers in your region. This year CodeWorks will stop in Dallas on December 8.
I have personally gone to CodeWorks 2009 and 2010. I learned a bit and met some great developers from around Texas.
Tickets are on sale right now. Early bird pricing is $25 per ticket or $20 if you "bring a friend" and buy two or more tickets at one. After October 31, they go up to $40 and $35 respectively.

I'll definitely be going, I hope you can make the time to attend as well. I know a couple people from the BCS area made it up to LoneStarPHP in Dallas at the end of June and had a great time with fellow PHP developers.
