On my first morning walk since arriving in Oliver yesterday, I came across a pair of Hooded Mergansers in the slough bordering Lion's Park. The male was having trouble swallowing a large fish, shaking and adjusting thus making almost constant movements. BIG fish! Species?

The female was not moving - sharper image!

Nikon Coolpix 520.   320-400th sec @ f7.1  ISO 400 about 800mm.

Good shots Barry: Is this the new camera? Looks as if it will do well.

No! My old one. My new one is in Calgary, being collected sometime this month and brought back next month.

Looks like a Pike Minnow, Barry! This is the only close-up I have of one. Long head  and jaw!

Thanks Bill. Following morning, I saw two females each with the same species in their beaks on the slough next door. Neither slough has had  direct river water for over 50 years.
