Made this new little birdie jump as I was walking in the local woods
today. He can't fly yet but he/she did quite a good job of hopping
into the lower reaches of a tree. Haven't a clue what he is. Picture
is muddy but I didn't want him to use up anymore energy so I stayed
on the path. Seems to be a touch of yellow underneath his rump in
every picture I took and a blackish or grayish blotch under the chin.
Pinkish legs. Stout looking beak, but maybe they all are at this
stage. Any ideas?

My initial reaction was Junco, Ferne. But I don't know what to make of the yellowish undertail coverts.

Okay, thanks Rick...I will put it down as a baby Junco then. I
googled other pictures and they look more or less the same, minus the
hint of yellow...maybe just a trick of the light which was pretty low,
so I had cranked up the ISO to a higher than normal level.
