Hey Folks!
How awesome was duo fest?! Thanks Dave and Eleni for doing such a
great job
organizing the day (and to all who made such amazing food!)
First off, I want to clarify some things from our last letter. In our
list of upcoming programs, we mentioned a "sex worker's space." We got
a couple of inquiries (understandably!) about what exactly that
entails, and we realized the importance of clarifying. We do not
intend to provide a space for sex workers to. . .well. . .work.
Instead, we want to collaborate with an organization called Sex
Workers Outreach Project, specifically for a one-day awareness event
held at the space. We want to promote health and safety among all
communities in Durham, including those less targeted by resource
providers in our area. Thanks to those of you who brought that
unclear item in the list to our attention!
Also, we wanted to clarify the nature of the law clinic that is being
offered as part of the Wednesday series "DIY Durham." The law clinic
on April 25th is just about HEALTH CARE FORMS ONLY, particularly (1)
Healthcare Power of Attorney and (2) Living Will forms.
Now for your opportunity to get involved in the space!
Following is a list of sub-committees that we've formed to work on
specific programs. If something looks interesting to you, or you have
an idea of your own, please email bullc...@gmail.com. This is your
space for your community, and we want you to be a part of it!
Newly formed subcommittees include:
--Mental Health Awareness Month
--Sri Lanka Fundraiser
--Queer Safe Night
--Dance Party
--Building a Donations Box
--Voting Registration / Political Debates
--BCHQ Insurance, Articles of Incorporation, Sign Registration etc.
--High School Night / Week / Month
--Community Outreach
Finally, a reminder: BCHQ is an alcohol free space. Not only do we
want this space to remain accessable to all people of all ages, we
really don't want to get shut down.
We hope to see you tonight from 7-9 at the Music Skill Share
workshop!!
Yours,
Catherine and the rest of BCHQ
