Some secretaries complain that they are not able to see the student phone number on the BCeSIS page due to the font being too big.  Turns out java is using free fonts instead of standard Times New Roman, Arial, & Courier.  For java 1.6 you install the attached file into java's lib filder.

locate fontconfig.properties.src   # will show you which folder to install to.

Right-click and Save As... Do not rename the attachment.

http://www.sd73.bc.ca/download/fontconfig.properties

The browser will have to be restarted to take effect.  This is not for Java 7.

You are doing some great work Dean! I thought BCeSIS was dead? SD73, leading the way with Linux! ;D

Dean,

Thanks a lot for this! That is going to be a popular change around here.

Editing fontconfig.properties didn't immediately work for me because the
shipped compiled Ubuntu.bfc file was taking precedence. After I deleted
that file it started reading the properties file.

Your original fontconfig.properties seems to be quite a bit different
from mine (which comes from sun-java6 6.35-1). Besides that, your XFLDs
for the MS fonts are different from the ones shipped in the defoma hints
file included with msttcorefonts, but I don't think that matters since
you're providing the filenames as well.

I'm attaching the patch I applied to fontconfig.properties here, in case
anyone finds it helpful.
