Recognizing the anniversary of pandemic declaration by WHO
Good morning all. One year ago today the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the SARS2 virus a pandemic. We have seen how many things are possible during this past year. There is still some time before we are clear of the pandemic and we still need to practice precautions to prevent spread of the virus.
We are in a position where it is clear that we need medical insurance coverage for all. It is clear that we need universal paid sick leave as well. Beyond those things it has become clearer to the general public that social inequities are the driving force behind health inequities. Research shows us that voter participation, percentage of the population in a union, and how democratized power is within a society all have correlations to overall health and health equity. Your involvement makes a difference.
The US has lost 529,000 people to this pandemic. Much of that was preventable. Many of the deaths we deal with as “normal” are preventable. We can do better. We will make a healthier world with your involvement.
Keep wearing your mask, washing your hands, and above all please stay involved in all of the health equity efforts you participate in!
