HEC Community!

1 – Next HEC Meeting, Tuesday, May 25, 10AM
Tomorrow will be the anniversary of the murder of Mr. George Floyd. I will do my best to remember that in our moment of silence. Feel free to remind me. May is mental health awareness month and I think that the presentation on Soteria House will be very important for those who are interested in different ways of supporting community. I hope that people from City and County can attend this presentation.
It has been a challenging year. We are starting to look at coming together in person more often. Hopefully that works out well. The Council is looking at building our capacity for deep community relationships and engagement. In talking with elected officials lately it is clear that there is a growing understanding of the need for real community power for building the movement we need to put pressure on institutions for healthy changes. Our current process are often good, yet insufficient. We hope you will join us on what we are calling the “Organizing Adventure.” See you tomorrow! Nothing changes without your involvement and even if it isn’t in the Council we hope you will be involved somewhere!

SOTERIA:
The Soteria model is a cost-effective approach to treating psychosis which is different from today's standard of care today. It is a home-like residence in which patients are provided with safety, support and affirmation as they move through the psychotic process towards recovery. The original Soteria house operated in the San Francisco Bay area from 1971 to 19 83. There was a Soteria house in Anchorage, Alaska from 2010 to 2015. There is one now in Burlington Vermont.
