The City has three finalists for APD Chief. Please read and learn more about candidates. https://www.abqjournal.com/1538325/city-selects-three-finalists-for-next-apd-chief.html

The country has passed 406,000 COVID deaths. While Inauguration Day was technically peaceful, I think it is a stretch to say that there was a peaceful transfer of power. We also will need to be more vigilant around white supremacist and fascist political violence. 2021 will likely be as challenging as 2020, yet we are used to some of these challenges so it may not feel as bad. It seems that instead of relaxing and hoping that things get better we will need to really work together to co-create a better world. Even if we are just focused on our block, or neighborhood, that will contribute to the whole. What we traditionally consider public health work needs to adjust to the our current conditions, which include not going back to the old normal. I think we can get energized and excited, or overwhelmed. We can have a healthier community if we all get involved! Let’s work at staying on the energized side!

1 – Monthly Networking Meeting, Tuesday, January 26 at 10AM

We will have a meeting slightly different meeting. We will be focusing on a more conversational meeting style, and less presentations. We will not eliminate presentations, yet we want to engage with you all more.

We have been in strategic planning and will discuss our vision, mission, and values. We will have breakout rooms for discussion. In this new year we want to create more opportunities for meaningful engagement. As well as engaging deeper with those of you who are already part of the BCCHC Community we want to start communicating with those we are not normally reaching. We cannot have a healthier community without your participation. We want to go beyond “preaching to the choir” and getting the choir to participate in the same projects. The goal is to move the conversation from “The Health Council” to YOUR health council!

Join us, and help us build YOUR strong movement for health equity!

Tom was of great service to the public health community, including health councils. On a personal note Tom was part of my hiring committee for health promotions specialist in SE Heights in August of 2000, as well as Jerry Montoya. We worked on a health profile for an organization called Community Health Partnership in 2001 and that started my collaboration with him on data on a smaller than county level. He worked hard and ultimately created a robust public health data project and community. He is greatly missed by many.

3 – Friday International District Food Distribution, Friday, January 22, 3PM

Hello all, Friday is our ID food distribution and our dry goods supply fell through, we have the beans and rice and veggies covered. If anyone has anything to add to our distribution I can pick it up or it can be dropped off at Mesa Verde Community Center at around 1pm.  any canned goods, cereal or bread is greatly appreciated.  This distribution we are handing out 100 bags.  Thank you all in advance.

The way we get through this is by helping each other. Have a blessed day!
