Greetings and hello and hi to one and all.  Must confess I completely forgot this group existed.  Mr Aymes I suspect we have you to thank for creating it.  Hope you are all doing well.

Regards

Raphael.

Happy New Year to BCC Class of 93. I am sure I won't recognise most of you now. Blessings.

All, A Very Happy New Year to you, and all that are close to you!

I also was not aware that the group was still actively there, but I suspected knowing Google that time somehow does not matter. It's here.

I do reminisce the times and memories our class generated, the days of meeting new people in the initial classes, seeing our technical strengths and areas that brought us all together despite differences.

As for keen observations as technology advanced at the rate it did, how many of you recalled having to set PC's date and time? Every time it was powered on! Oh also the psychology of the interaction between the person and the console, the XT's were from x86's early beginning, following closely behind the IBM PC, but those "built like a truck" keyboards. Superior! When the Fujitsu ICL 386's arrived, we were relieved to have decent speed and screens, but the subpar keyboards were terrible. I actually acquired an IBM keyboard built later in the PS/2 connector era, which I'm going to display in a glass cabinet someday, precious!

I can rattle on and on, so stop me if you have to.

Regards

Just stumbled onto this group once again.  Never even realised that some of you replied.  :) :)

Hope everyone is well.  Thanks to this group I just re-discovered a Dbase III exercise I posted previously.  So weird that i have ZERO recollection of doing so or of even having the exercise.  Ironically my son is now a BCC student in the Computer Studies division so I shared the exercise with him.

Have a great day and productive week!

Lots uh love

Raphael.

Yes Raphael,

Funnily enough I was only recently reading of the fateful history Ashton Tate suffered, the producer of dBase III / III+. One of the lecturers of the evening classes, Julien Burton, I saw in a supermarket around the tail end of the pandemic, we still message tech. He was a very prolific dBase programmer back then, Julia would remember one of the classes she took before our two years.
He is also good with a number of languages and an electronics wiz, circuit design level.

Back in the 70's when the first Radio Shack TRS80 Model I arrived on the island, he was handed this to code for it as a demonstration. In later years I acquired a TRS80 Model III, (non-working), which I still have. I long for the existence of a Barbados Museum of Technology. I have pieces I can contribute.

Regards

Hey Philip!

Barbados Museum of Technology?  I think that's an awesome idea.  Thanks for the interesting information you always share.

Raphael.
