The Greedy

1Cor 6:9,10 “...nor the greedy... will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Greed, in contrast to something like murder, is one of those largely socially acceptable sins, and even shamelessly encouraged in some societies. But the greedy share the same fate as those who characteristically commit heinous sins.  Greed can be measured by one's generosity or lack thereof, or by one's hospitality or lack thereof. A greedy person is a selfish person devoted to finding security and fulfillment in the accumulation of resources. Jesus said, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15

Ministers are warned, “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers— not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve” 1Pet 5:2 For there are those involved in ministry for the money. “In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.” 2Pet 2:3 Evidence of Greed disqualifies one from spiritual leadership. (1Tim 3:3)
