Jealousy
Gal 5:19-21 “...jealousy... those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
The Greek word for "jealousy" here is "zelos",also translated "zeal" and "envy". (For “jealous”comes from “zealous”) Religious zeal is a common form of such jealousy. The violence and oppression practiced in Islamic countries is an example of such zeal. As is the Jewish zeal in killing their own Messiah and persecuting his followers. For even Pilate, "knew that they had handed Him over because of envy." Mt 27:18 And when Paul started preaching to Gentiles, "when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul." Acts 13:45 Of them Paul wrote, "I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. or they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God." Rom 10:1,2
