How Excitng.
I have heard good and bad things about Wreck Beach. The Good stuff
makes me want to go there someday but it is quite an effort.
The good thing I hear about Wreck Beach is that many people say that it
is one of the best beaches in the whole world. Kind of hard for me to
believe with all those white sand tropical beaches out there in the
world, but that is what they say. That alone makes me want to go.
The waters around Wreck Beach are warmer than you would expect. I
guess it's river water mixed with the Ocean Water.
Now for the bad stuff. Apart from the usual bad things you find with
going to some public nude place that doesn't have the safeguards that a
private park does, I mean.
One, there are LOTS of Drugs there. I hear that the police might
finally be enforcing the drug laws there a bit more, but historically
they have just allowed it to happen.
Although you find vendors there selling beer, if some vendor goes
around calling out "Bud" they a probably not selling beer but "BC Bud"
- Marijuana.
If you see someone selling cookies, they probably aren't the type mom
used to make (unless your mom was some kind of druggy). So be sure you
know what EXACTLY what is in what you buy, if you buy anything at all.
The stairs is around 400 steps. I feel going down somewhere is worst
than going up somewhere. For when you have to go up to get there at
least you know that at the end of the day when you are tired and you
want to go home, the return trip is easier. But here getting back from
wreck beach is far worst than getting there.
I have heard that in Canada, American cars are vandalized often. So
with your Washington Licence Plate yours could become quite a target.
Be sure to bring your passport. I hear that's a new requirement.
Other than that, have fun. I would love to hear how it turns out.
Haven't been for a while, but it is my favourite beach. It's a
"clothing-optional" beach and about half of beachgoers do cover up. The
water is fairly warm and refreshing compared to other local beaches.
There are no services of any kind down there other than a couple of
outhouses, and entrepreneurs selling beer, snacks, and hash brownies.
Bring all your own water. The cops do patrol the area but in my
experience they don't mind you downing a beer as long as you are not
visibly drunk. It's about the most laid back and relaxing place you'll
find in Vancouver. Enjoy.

K.
Lang may your lum reek.
There are NOT lots of drugs there. If you are looking for drugs, don't hike
down those 400 steps because its very unlikely you will find any down there.
What you will find is a lot of leather-skinned hippy freaks suspicious of
anyone who doesn't take their clothes off as soon as they get to the bottom of
the steps. And anyone who appears to be looking for or selling drugs will get
annoying scrutiny by toothless hobo hippies following them around and telling
them its 'their beach'.
It is a very nice beach, pristine and unmanaged, if you can stand the eyesore
of the genetic-mutant humans roaming around. But if you're into
freak-watching, there are some serious acid-casualties down there, the likes of
which you'd have to go to Haight street to find otherwise.
Supposedly new construction at UBC has resulted or will result in high
rises whose occupants can see the beach ending the privacy that has
been there in the past. Rapes have occured there in the past.
Wrong, as usual.
> but the
>Wreck Beach drunks and druggies probably have a more than usual

Wrong, as usual.
> There is also a nude beach in White Rock but the

>Wreck Beach.
Wrong, as usual.
No, you're wrong.
No, you are.
The time before last the police were in full uniform just off one of the
trails although they are usually everywhere. They use common sense else
we would hear otherwise. The police, although I can't speak for them,
are probably looking for extremes in all cases be it drugs, booze or any
other illegal activity.
It is a great beach. It has lots of different areas so a walk along the
lengthy beach will give you a good idea of its overall beauty.
I would bring water and anything else you might need. Most people leave
well before 7:00 p.m. as the mood changes and its more party type people
as opposed to daytime beach people who arrive or leave at 7:00 p.m.
I understand it to be probably the nicest new beach in the world,
especially when it is within a 15 minute walk from the university and a
45 minute bus ride from downtown Vancouver.
Or just buy some fresh BBQ dogs & burgers after you arrive at Wreck!
I haven't been in years -- used to enjoy it -- very relaxing, with being
amongst casual people rather than the uptighties at regular beaches!
Of course, regular beaches are more of a turn-on, for girl-watching!
(except when I was 15 on my first visit to Wreck, and spent the whole afternoon
on my stomach!) (fully dressed!)

In 1990, Kevin Ladouceur was brutally murdered on the beach. He was the
first reported murder at Wreck Beach. There was a teenaged beer vendor
Christina (Tina) Joy Thompson who was murdered at the top of Trail Six
in August 1993, that inspired a local play called "Wreck Beach" that
tells the tale, and could be the source of the tale. Apparently this
was the 2nd murder committed at Wreck Beach by 1993. Not aware of any
other murders since that date.
In 1995, after two years of angst in the community as rumours
circulated over who murdered the popular girl, Joseph Daniel Hammond
arrived with a priest at the Richmond RCMP detachment and admitted
killing Thompson. He was jailed for life and is eligible for parole in
2004. Hammond said he had watched the woman argue with her boyfriend.
He then offered to carry a bag for her up a trail. He began to touch
her and a struggle ensued. The woman was quickly strangled. The Crown
lawyer said that Hammond had intercourse with the deceased woman "a
couple of times" in the bushes after killing her.
I think you mean Point No Point. Second Beach is in Stanley Park.
> Or just buy some fresh BBQ dogs & burgers after you arrive at Wreck!
Or California rolls.
> I haven't been in years -- used to enjoy it -- very relaxing, with being
> amongst casual people rather than the uptighties at regular beaches!
That's one of the reasons why it is my favourite beach. None of the
brashness you get at, say, Kitsilano beach.
> Of course, regular beaches are more of a turn-on, for girl-watching!
> (except when I was 15 on my first visit to Wreck, and spent the whole
> afternoon on my stomach!) (fully dressed!)
Yes, Wreck Beach is a pretty frightening place for the average 15 year
old boy. When I was 15 I wasn't at all interested in seeing a bunch of
naked people who looked like my mom and dad. At Wreck you'll see plenty
of kids under 10, and adults over 25, but not much in between. Most
patrons tend to be 40-plus.
> I think you mean Point No Point. Second Beach is in Stanley Park.
>
Point-no-Point is the southern tip of Whidbey Island in Washington
State. The walk from there to Wreck Beach, British Columbia, will be
about 60 miles as the crow flies over open water. Not recommended in
any tour guide that I know of.
Motor up .. find parking .. and go down the stairs.
http://www.vancourier.com/issues01/08301/news/083101nn1.html
Most of the beer vendors never saw it coming. On a warm Saturday on the
Canada Day long weekend, business promised to be brisk at Wreck Beach,
Canada's only public clothing-optional haven. While police regularly
patrol the beach, an unprecedented crackdown was far from the minds of
vendors as they made their rounds, selling ice-cold beer for $3 a
bottle.
Unbeknownst to the 15 beer sellers, Mounties from the University of
British Columbia detachment had been spying on them for weeks, noting
where they stashed their coolers under the sand in the bushes.
Undercover officers, clothed but blending into the mostly naked crowd
ordering beer, quickly busted three vendors, while other cops were
waiting for three more as they went to their stashes to resupply.
Check this out.
The individual you're probably referring to was the body painter down
at our local Wreck Beach, which is a nude beach, who is currently under
investigation. But with regard to his pattern of behaviour, without
conviction, he's still obviously interested in little children.

I was talking about the Point No Point that is by Wreck Beach. This one:
It is, though, an unofficial name, apparently rescinded.
Second Beach is in Stanley Park, moron. That would be a long walk...
But gapope apparently was. He's saying he spent the whole time on his stomach
because he had a raging erection
What, 30 years ago when you were 15 and had your erection?
More bad things about Wreck Beach. Just thought you should be aware.

yes, women are covering up now because there are way too many perverts
there just to get something to go home and masturbate about. The ones
that go there to flaunt and offer themselves to the perverts and get
their vaginas stared at are most likely looking for something to put in
them.

I used to go to Wreck mainly for the drugs. It was a very
guy-oriented scene 13 years ago too. Quite a few women went topless
but not many completely buff. I used to get naked and then oogle. I
felt that was a fair compromise ( I'm a perv, but I'm a nude perv). If
I got a hard-on I would go in the water for a few minutes. In Miami
the scene is way better. The chicks are infinitely hotter and flirting
and oogling are encouraged, unlike Wreck where it seems most women are
50+ and just want to talk about yoga or some damn thing.
Here are some interesting responses to a posting of "List of Reasons to
like Wreck Beach".
These comments kind of validates my theory that one of the reasons (not
the only reasons) that women are less likely to get involved in nudism
is because seeing men's penis is hard to get used to.

Most female fans of Wreck Beach that I know of tell me that they are
*LESS* likely to be ogled while nude at Wreck, than they are by wearing a
swimsuit at Kits or English Bay. YMMV, I guess.

Let me add that if what's stopping you is fear of exposing your pasty white
flab to the world, there's no REQUIREMENT that you strip down at Wrech Beach.
It's called clothing-OPTIONAL for a reason. . .
If you want to dress exactly the way you do at any other beach, feel free --
unless you dress in a burkha, then you might get laughed at. . .

No, just outing a cowardly anonymous bigot.
ah... so you're publicly admitting your shortcomings... good work!... a

While I was descending the stairs amongst all the Douglas Fir trees I
was reminded of my Stay on the California North coast. Even if B.C.
was the temperate rain forest it still felt like the Redwoods and
Humboldt County.
The stairs are very uneven. It's made of earth and wooden boards to
prevent corrosion. Not recommended for people who have ambulatory
difficulties. At the bottom of the stairs there is plenty of sand and
the beach itself has a lot of drift wood on it. There were plenty of
nude men and women appx between the ages of 18 to 35.
Yes, there were vendors. But for the time I was there, there was no
illegal activity. The vendors were just 2 female immigrants from Peru
trying to make some money. They were selling sandwiches made with Pita
bread and it was good! I didn't have any Canadian money on me because
I spent it all on $4 dollar a gallon (in USD) Canadian gasoline and
food. These two vendors are regulars since the beachgoers were
expecting them.
Yes, the Canadian police was present on the beach. I can't imagine
there being a loot of illegal activity with the police presence. I did
not see any pot smoking on the beach. I didn't even see much swimming.
I was at Wreck beach just last June. Mid - June. I had to buy my Pita
bread sandwich with American money.
It's funny how Canadians will always take American money when a sale is
made but in America nobody would even take Canadian money in exchange
for goods or services.
I believe I was looked at with suspicion at Wreck beach because I was
an American tourist and I wouldn't take my clothes off because I don't
think I have much to show off on my skinny frame.
I asked the Peruvians why the immigrated to Canada instead of the USA.
They said they thought it was better especially since they already had
relatives in Canada. Not the Canada was such a bad place or anything.
I was just curious why. I mean if I lived in a third or second world
country the only place where I would want to immigrate to is New York
City USA. As its associated with wealth, jobs, money, buisness, etc.
If you are going to Canada from the USA. Fill up your gas tank once
you get into Canada because it's cheaper and i'm sure Canada can use
your tax dollars badly. Canadian highways are years behind their
American counterparts. And any last bit of road tax would be very
helpfull indeed.
I did not experience any hostility in Canada for being an American. I
have spoken with a few Canadians and from what I understand Canada
seems to overcompensate for not being a superpower the was the USA is
just accross the border. Just be open and receptive. Look at the
Canadians and the way they live and you will understand. Considering
the fancy 2 setting flush toilets they have, the heavy use of road
signage, the metric system, the uniforms, the type of attitude
everything. It's all overcompensation for a feeling of inadequacy in
my opinion.

We don't have to understand it any more than you have to undertand imperial
measurements, because our cars have metric speedometers just like your have
imperial speedometers. Press gas until needle reaches number. Pretty simple
for a chimpanze or a typical american or canadian, but you must be atypical.
Where else in the world does McDonalds use Garbage Trash Compactors
built into their trash cans? Canada. Where else can you find the
worlds largest and most elaborate indoor shopping mall? Canada. Where
can you find fancy toilets that go a step Further and allow two
buttons? (1 button for if you just want to go Pee and a 2nd button if
you want to go crap.) Canada.
Canada is an Amazing place to visit. It's just that to economy isn't
the best at this moment in time. Even if the price of commoditites
like wood and oil did go up.
Both Canada and the USA have been around for relatively the same amount
of time. I and many others wonder why the USA then has 50 times the
population. Possibly the weather has something to do with it. That,
and the U.S. being more well known to potential immigrants.
East-
Good for you, I found the opposite to be the case. US Customs guy was gruff
and kept cutting me off mid-sentence or making me repeat myself loudly by
saying WHAT?? all the time, whereas Canadian customs.. oh yeah, they dragged me
in and hassled me for their own delays on issuing my Permanent Residence Card.
I guess customs people are jackassess all around, though I've had nothing but
good experiences with both sides at the Pt. Roberts crossing...
All those things about Canada you think are weird though, are
environmentally friendlier than what was their before.
Compacting trash means fewer garbage bags wasted. The two
setting toilets also uses less water.
No compensation really. Except Toronto's inferiority complex
and its Montreal, Vancouver, New York, and Chicago envy ;-)

Or perhaps the USA has under compensated for the environment and in
doing so lost a huge amount of business. Many years ago I could do my
clothes in a French laundromat with energy efficient, water efficient,
front loading washers and dryers. They look smaller but you can really
pack your clothes in because of the format. Now we are all buying them
in the USA and following their technology leadership, far too late.
I can't wait for the McLobster's in Nova Scotia to show up at my McD.

The lack of a living wage.
Then why don't they improve their lot in life?

Good question.
Lots of these people are minorities. But still they can and should get
training to get into a career they they can make more money at.

Well they could become nudists. That would greatly improve their lives.
I'm sure they make a LOT more than anybody working at a fast food restaurant,
and yet all those people working at fast food restaurants tend to be polite.
Obviously your theory about their wages being tied to their dispositions is
WRONG.
