I am looking at purchasing a new bike, but I live in northern BC and do not
have the luxury of shopping around bike shops in a major center. I
would appreciate it if I could get some opinions on a particular bike. I am
also open to suggestions for other comparable bikes in the $2000 range.

I would like some opinions on the 1995 Asama Rockline Team. Why does the Team
have Rapidfire shifters when the Pro and Team Carbon have Gripshifts? Why
does the Team have Ritchey Mad-Max and Climb-Max tires? I thought these were
low-end tires? How does the Easton Varilite frame hold-up to rough riding by
a 180 lb cyclist? I would also like to hear of some prices for this
bike, if anyone has seen it in the shops. Thanks alot.

Last fall, I bought a Rockline Comp ( 1 step below the Pro) on sale with a
Quadra 21 fork for about $1100 Can including 7% GST & 11% PST. I like the
bike a lot. For the money, I got a good db frame & LX components with a nice
Sugino crankset. This is not a big town, but I shopped at several bike stores
& based on the frame, components & price, I made my decision. A great
reference that I used to compare bikes was the '94 Canadian Cyclist buyers
guide. I haven't seen one on the news stands this year, but it may exist.
Sorry I don't have info the higher end Asamas that you are considering, but
I think you will do fine by comparing frame components & price. Being from
BC, did you have a look @ the Rocky Mountain bikes? Good Luck.
