Job Description: Full Time UNIX Webmaster/System Administration

Timeframe: Immediate (interviews have started, but were still looking...)

Scope:

This position entails a series of specific short and long term projects which need to be started (and the short term ones completed) within the first few weeks of employment. A series of ongoing routines and responsibilities are required, some of which are identified below. The individual who fills this position has the definite opportunity to evolve into either CIC Canadas Technical Director, or a full time UNIX Systems Analyst, depending on the individuals skill, interest, and mutually determined suitability.

Compensation is dependent on qualifications.

Identified Project Requirements:

* Updating all DNS information as required
* Acquisition and Configuration of Sun system with Netscape Commerce Suite
* System "physical" & status report
* Refinement of formal System Backup Procedures
* Retrieval of basic billing information
* Management of all Domain Names registered
* Management of all Web Sites stored on system
* Management of Mail Server Clients, and report/log of breakdown and usage
* Updating records on server to reflect correct customer billing information
* Documenting of User-performed technical support, both hard copy and on-line
* Refinement of User Agreement, and technical standards re: cgi and other
side processing beyond Web Storage
* Research, planning and implementation of mirrored disk & Long Term system
strategy
* Development of on-line mail server administration
* Implementation of LAN in CIC Office

Identified Ongoing Requirements:

* Assistance with research and development efforts to add or enhance customer
offerings
* Identification of additional software tools
* Monthly reporting on server activity, exception reporting on highly
(in)active Web Sites
* 100% responsibility for Systems Integrity and Reliability
* Facilitating all Web Site enabling and other non-user capable Web Site
maintenance
* Complete customer cgi support, and occasional cgi programming
* Keeping Domain Name Server and associated tables current, and registration
and communication with various Internet bodies.
* Main liaison with provider for all remote technical and WAN issues
* All System Administration responsibilities for FTP Server, Web Server and
Mail Server, including all end-user administration (user id management,
etc.)

This is an exciting opportunity for a deeply skilled UNIX individual to, in effect, "run your own show". This person will be working in cooperation with the partners of the CIC Canada team.
