28th World Men's and 20th World Women's Masters Championships,
St.Catharines, Ontario

Well folks, BC did very well at the World Master Championship at St.
Catharines, Ontario on September 26 - October 1, 2011. We had four
lifters from the BCPA at this contest and they were Joe Oliveira,
Rhonda Heaslip, Kim Dennis and Jacquie Sandu. The results for all
four were spectacular and all four got either a new National records
and/or broke the BCPA ones.

Joe was lifting in the 105 Kg Master 1 class. He came to this meet
with a purpose and man did he get it. The first event being the squat,
Joe nails it with a 310.0 Kg finisher. He benched a fantastic 212.5 Kg
and slammed the door shut with a 280.0 Kg dead lift. This gave him a
total of 802.5 Kg (1765.5 Lb) and solidified a bronze medal. This was
a great day of lifting for Joe. You are a squat monster Joe...

Rhonda came to this with a goal and that was to bet her previous
numbers and show what 63 Kg class, Master 2 woman can do. Rhonda
(being from the island), starts off her records quest with a 147.5 Kg
squat. Next in the bench press, comes in with a well earned 100.0 Kg.
To finish off her records and medal trek, she nails a hard 162.5 Kg
dead lift that gives her a 410.0 Kg total. These numbers gave her a
silver medal finish and all new records for the BCPA and a few
National ones as well. You rocked it girl (a bit biased since I too am
from the island).

Jacquie arrived in St. Catharines with gold in her eyes for the Master
2 women’s 52 Kg class and nailed solid silver. She started the journey
with a squat of 120.0 Kg. Jacquie returns to the platform with a bench
of 70.0 Kg and an awesome dead lift of 145.0 Kg. This combined to give
her a silver medal at the Worlds with a fantastic total of 335 Kg.
This also gives Jacquie a new Provincial squat and total record of 335
Kg.

Last but never least; Kim earns a fantastic and hard fought 4th place.
She starts the battle with a squat of 170.0 Kg. Kim comes to the
bench press with a 97.5 Kg, and finishes off with a 145.0 Kg dead
lift. These numbers gave her a 412.5 Kg total and beats her own BCPA
records. Kim never ceases to amaze and continuously breaks records
when she steps out on the platform.

These Four are huge inspirations for new and seasoned lifters. Just
goes to show that at any age or any venue, you too can perform and
best your previous lifts. I salute you four and applaud you. Well
done!!!!!!

Warren
