BCPA Newsletter January 10, 2011
This is the first issue of the new format of the BCPA newsletter.

Rule Changes
At the most recent IPF General Assembly in November, a number of rule
changes were passed. These have now been added to the revised
technical rules at
http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/fileadmin/data/Technical_Rules/IPF_rulebook_01_2011.pdf
These changes appear in red font.
The most significant rule change is the introduction of new weight
classes effective January 1, 2011.
Women: up to 43 kg (Sub-Junior/Junior); 47 kg; 52 kg; 57 kg; 63 kg; 72
kg; 84 kg; +84 kg
Men: up to 53 kg (Sub-Junior/Junior); 59 kg; 66 kg; 74 kg; 83 kg; 93
kg; 105 kg; 120 kg; +120 kg
Annual General Meeting
One of the hot topics at the Annual General Meeting on Sunday will be
whether or not to retire records set in the old weight classes and, if
so, whether minimum standards should be set for setting new records
under the revised weight classes. Ultimately it will be up to the
membership to decide, so if you want to have your say you should
participate in the AGM.
In recent years, we have barely had enough voting members attend the
AGM to reach quorum. We value your input at the AGM and encourage you
attend.
Coffee and snacks will be provided.
If you cannot attend the AGM, you cannot vote by proxy but you may
submit proposals. (Send them to me by email at
jg...@math.sfu.ca)
Executive Council
Anton Dirkin has stepped down from the BCPA executive to take up
employment in the Netherlands. This has left a large void on the
executive as Anton did a lot for this association and, while we wish
him well, he will be missed. On behalf of the BCPA, we thank him for
his outstanding service for the past five years.
In the event of a vacancy between elections, the BCPA executive can
appoint a new director and I am pleased to announce that Walt Dengler
has offered to serve on the executive council. He has taken on the
role of Registrar, so please send your membership applications and
direct all registration queries to Walt. The 2011 membership
application form is available at
http://bcpowerlifting.ca/faq/2011_BCPA_membership_form.pdf
You should send in your application now if you plan to compete this
year.
BC Winter Open
The 2011 BC Winter Open takes place Sunday, February 13 at Performance
Works in Vancouver. This is a new venue on Granville Island and we
look forward to your participation. See the entry form at
http://bcpowerlifting.ca/calendar/2011_Winter_Open_Entry_form.pdf
for further details.
We are a small organization run entirely by volunteers and these
contests cannot happen without your support. If you will not be
competing at this contest, please contact me
jg...@math.sfu.ca to find
out how you can help!
It has been about six years since anyone took an exam to become a
provincial-level referee. We need to recruit more referees this year.
If you are an experienced lifter and would like to become a referee,
please contact either myself or our Officials Chair, Ryun Laniec.
2011 Nationals
The 2011 Nationals take place March 29 – April 2 in Charlottetown,
PEI. The entry deadline is March 1. An entry form can be found on the
contest website at
http://2011nationals.ca/cpu/
Note that this year, you do not require my signature on your entry
form. I will receive a lifting roster after the entry deadline to
verify that everyone from BC who has entered has qualified for the
event. You are qualified to enter Nationals if:
1. You participated in the 2010 BC Provincials Championships as either
a competitor or designated volunteer; and
2. You have set a National Qualifying Total within the past 24 months
(See
http://www.powerlifting.ca/qual_totals.html )
Contact me if you are not sure whether or not you have qualified
before booking flights or accommodations.
Wishing you all the best for 2011,
Justin Gray
BCPA President
