Hi BCDA Users,

We are writing to inform you about an issue with the Beneficiary Claims Data API (BCDA) that has potentially affected our API's ability to honor the data sharing preferences of certain enrollees.

Issue Summary
  • On Monday, May 19th at approximately 1:45 PM ET, updates to BCDA introduced a bug affecting our opt-out data suppression mechanism
  • This issue may have resulted in sharing data for enrollees who had elected to opt out of data sharing with model entities (ACOs, Kidney Care Entities, and other CMS Alternative Payment Model participants)
  • Upon identification of the issue, the BCDA team disabled the API on Tuesday, May 20th at approximately 4:20 PM ET to prevent further oversharing of enrollee data.
Resolution Status
  • Our team has successfully rolled back to the previous stable release of the API and service has been restored.
  • We are currently analyzing the full impact of this incident, including identifying affected organizations and enrollees
Next Steps
  • We will provide an update on our investigation by the end of this week. This update will include details on any necessary actions for affected organizations
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please contact the BCDA support team at bc...@cms.hhs.gov.

Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership.

Hi BCDA Community,

We completed our analysis of the impact of the recent opt-out suppression errors. As a result of this incident, some but not all model entities received the claims data of Medicare enrollees who had opted-out of data sharing in files downloaded from BCDA between May 19th 1:45 PM ET and May 20th 4:20 PM ET.

We've identified the model entities affected by this incident and they will receive further details and instructions on how to proceed.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please contact the BCDA support team at bc...@cms.hhs.gov.

Thanks,
The BCDA team
