Hello BCDA Community,

We are excited to announce that we released an optimized version of the `/Group` endpoint as a test feature to our sandbox environment on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020.

We have provided instructions below, as well as background information about the feature and its relationship to the '_since' parameter. We encourage the BCDA community to try out this new test feature in our sandbox and provide feedback on this thread. Additionally, we will be holding an open office hour session on Wednesday, May 20th from 2-3pm ET to gather your feedback on this new addition to BCDA. More information on this session will be provided in the coming days. Your feedback on this test feature is incredibly valuable as it will help shape the solution for production.

BACKGROUND

As detailed in a recent Google Group message, `_ since` allows you to pull only beneficiary claims data that have been updated since a past date (of your choosing) instead of retrieving historical data for all beneficiaries associated with your ACO. While '_ since' is useful for retrieving small amounts of ongoing claims data for an ACO's existing beneficiaries, it doesn't allow you to retrieve historical data for new beneficiaries.

This is where `/Group` comes into the picture. You can use ‘/Group’ to retrieve historical data for new beneficiaries by inputting a Group ID of ‘new’ into the /Group endpoint. When used in conjunction with `_ since`, `/Group/new` will allow your organization to optimize the amount of data pulled from BCDA (historical data for new beneficiaries, and ongoing claims for existing beneficiaries), thus reducing both the time-to-download and the load on your organization’s API infrastructure. Additionally, this feature can be applied to all resource types: Patient, Coverage, and ExplanationOfBenefit.

INSTRUCTIONS

To demonstrate the functionality of `/Group/new`, we have added to our existing synthetic sandbox data – 10 newly attributed beneficiaries for each ACO size. The new data simulate a scenario in which 10 beneficiaries which were not attributed to the synthetic ACO last month, were attributed in the current month.

You can initially use `/Group` via cURL or our Swagger platform, as well as write your own client application. You must submit a GroupId of "all" (all patients attributed to an ACO) or "new" (a subset of newly attributed to an ACO), otherwise the request will fail.

cURL command format:

curl -X GET "https://sandbox.bcda.cms.gov/api/v1/Group/{groupId}/$export" -H "accept: application/fhir+json" -H "Prefer: respond-async" -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>"

We look forward to receiving your feedback on this thread, and during our office hour session on Wednesday, May 20th from 2-3pm ET! We will send conferencing details as the date approaches.

All my best,
Liani

Hello BCDA Community,

We look forward to hearing your thoughts, questions, or comments to the new `/Group` test feature. `/Group` is available in sandbox, and instructions are outlined in our first post in this Google Group thread.

We are also seeking feedback on our implementation of the test feature from the broader FHIR community. To learn more about our implementation and to join in the conversation, check out our post in the FHIR Community's Zulip chat.

As a reminder, the BCDA team will also be hosting an office hour session on May 20th, at 2pm ET to answer your questions and gather feedback live!
