BCDA V3 - Clarification on Item-Level serviceDate Value in ExplanationOfBenefit Resource

Hello BCDA Team,

While processing BCDA V3 ExplanationOfBenefit resources, we observed that the item-level serviceDate is populated with the value 0999-12-27 for some claims.

  For example:

  "serviceDate": "0999-12-27"
}

Could you please clarify the following?

• Is 0999-12-27 an expected value for the item-level serviceDate in BCDA V3?
• If so, what does this date represent?
• If not, is this a known issue or an invalid/default placeholder value that should be ignored during processing?

If needed, we can also provide the corresponding ExplanationOfBenefit ID and sample JSON to help with the investigation.

Hi Ashvani,

Thank you for sharing the additional examples to support the investigation. Our upstream data provider has identified a bug causing certain dates to be incorrectly converted to 0999-12-27.

We will update this thread once the bug has been resolved.
