We've been buying cheap land line phones, because we aren't
interested in the fancy stuff anyway. But two fairly recent ones are gone
or going. One won't call out, and one won't show caller ID. (We do use
that.)
Where's a source better than Radio Shack (where we got these two)?

I was hoping for a place I could walk into and come out with one;

I'd guess you'd have a hard time, about the only other place to try is
something like WalMart. I don't know if BestBuy carries anything other
than cell phones these days. It is a double whammy: first, the big
electronics places are going bust [didn't Comp USA die a while back (not
that there was ever one around here)? I can't remember if circuit city is
still dead or has come back to life], and second, the ones that survive
probably aren't so interested in stocking landline phones... the money to
be made is the fancy/glitzy mobile ones... Alas.

I remembered to ask when I had another walmart errand; they did
have both a wall phone and a desk phone. We'll see how they do ...
