So can I but I don't. But UPS and FEDEX both will pick up and the charge
is only about $10.
>60 sizes of boxes.
Almost any store and esp grocery and department stores toss out every box
imaginable and will usually give them to you instead, just for asking.
Potential customers should know that the charge for using packaging
services is EXHORBITANT. I went in to the biz at the given location with
a package slightly over USPS weight once and the charge to get it on a
truck was almost $75. For that much I went back and re-packed to get it
under, figured the savings was about $50/hr. I am not making this up.
USPS is a none-better deal. You will never get the same rate anywhere
else on shipping or insurance, if you do have a claim the procedure is
straight-forward and prompt with no hassles from the workers, and your
postman will also pick stuff up at your location depending only on it
being properly packed and having the right postage on it.

Yes, but you have to wait around until they come to your place. how valuable
is your time?

Many stores recycle their boxes, or you have to be there at 3AM to get any
good ones. and if you're shipping something a good box should be used.

where was your package going to? something going to the west coast isn't
cheap. but UPS and FEDEX get packages there faster then USPS and give
tracking. which tracking at USPS is available at an added cost.
yes USPS won't take many packages and UPS does charge for oversize packages.
The rates are set by the shipping companies and stores like this have to
charge over to be able to provide the service. DID you really save anything
with your time involved running around repacking the box? You could make your
own clothes a lot cheaper probably than buying them at a store also.

I understand claims with the USPS aren't easy to do but thats true with UPS
also.
But if the box is packed properly it should arrive in one in good shape, boxes
should be filled with packing materials to insure they won't cave in when
other packages are placed on them.

You'll find that Ollie has a lot of time on his hands.

That's not the point of course. We ship with fair frequency and the wife
usually does that on her way into town. If it is a pickup, I'm here
working all day anyway and waiting costs nothing.

Many stores give you stuff like that for asking. As for good, anything is
good if it gets things there intact. That's often enough the result of
how it's packed and not what in. A pretty box isn't much advantage with
machine shop product.

We always insure and that gets the us tracking number. 'Faster' isn't a
big thing in most cases but USPS does offer next day on all mail at
reasonable rates. The point here isn't the relative merit of the service
though, it's the surcharge to get it to the service.

They all do.

Too True!!

Money saved is money earned so my rate on that was really pretty high,
2.5 or better times my shop rate. Just dispassionately now, would you pay
somebody $70-75 to fill out some forms, carry a wrapped box across the
store and set it in the out stack?

I doubt it, time is money too. You raised that point, above. Have a good
one.
