The Balkan Dance Cabal invites you to come dance with us tomorrow,

Monday, January 26th, 730 pm to 930 pm, in the Back StudioAshkenaz, 1317 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley.

Entry on the side door on the Left. (Not through the main door.)

•   It is the first meeting of the New Year and is free for everyone!

Join us as we pursue our mission – Plotting to achieve the sublime through the joyful mastery of dance!

At Balkan Dance Cabal meetings, we aim for equal parts teaching/review and dancing. During the evening, we’ll do a mix of dancessome easy, some moderate and some definitely challenging/more advanced—dances that span the breadth and depth of the Balkans, especially dances of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Northern Greece, Albania, and the Roma. Our repertoire includes dances from the 1970’s and 1980’s (and earlier), as taught by master teachers such as Pece Atanasovski and Dick Crum, as well as many dances taught more recently. Hypnotic dances, exciting dances… with music that stirs the soul!

There is no set list for Monday, but the plan is for Nadav Nur to teach Gergana Panova’s Sedi Donka and review Marty Koenig’s Rustemul. The rest of the evening we’ll do some easy and some more challenging dances with brief review as needed; dances we may do include Kopčeto, Mari Kiz, Horohano (aka Tursko Pharo), Trakiiski, Baidouska, Topansko, and Vodarki, as well as your suggestions!

·      Masks and vaccination/boosters for COVID are recommended, not required, consistent with Ashkenaz policy.

·      Please bring your own water bottle.

Let me know if you have questions. I hope some of you will join us!
