Upcoming classes, Ohio, Ljubljana, publication, and more

Greetings, friends!

I'm writing from Cleveland Ohio, where I am this week giving lectures and teaching at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Cleveland State University School of Music, the AHEA conference, and in the local Hungarian community. If you're in the area, reach out!

I've heard that a lot of you don't see these newsletters because they go to Spam or Promotions folders. If you get them, drop a note to help me feel I'm not sending them out in vain! 😊

In April and May, we're offering two parallel online class series before our break over the summer. Instead of the same materials at various class times, we have a Transdanubia series on Sundays, and a review series on Tuesdays. See below! We also continue to offer the recorded class option.

In other news, the Institute for Musicology in Budapest has just published an article I wrote about teaching Hungarian folk singing to people of diverse backgrounds. If you'd like to take a deep dive into my teaching methodology and philosophy, see below.

I originally wrote this for a conference at the Institute for Musicology in Budapest, to share my thoughts and experiences with my colleagues there about working with English speakers — looking at current common practices, assorted barriers to learning, and how we can more successfully adapt our teaching methods (rather than, say, simplify the tradition) when teaching diaspora Hungarians and non-Hungarians. For anyone who wants to take a deep dive into my teaching methodology and philosophy, the article is on page 105!

Feel free to share your thoughts and feedback with me, I would love to hear them!

Free download of the whole book

The official book release will be on May 7 at the Institute for Musicology in Budapest, after which physical copies will also be for sale at the usual stores in Hungary.
