Hooray! Väsen is returning to Berkeley! This time at the historic Hillside Club in Berkeley on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 7:30pm
Performing as a duo, Olov Johansson and Mikael Marin, Väsen, bring refined beauty to Swedish folk music. Nyckelharpa and low-pitched Viola meld to create intricate modern tunes and old Swedish baroque music.
In 1989, Väsen was founded by Mikael Marin, Olov Johansson and guitarist Roger Tallroth. The trio quickly established themselves as one of the leading acts in Swedish acoustic music, crafting a distinctive sound that balances traditional melodies with innovative
arrangements and a contemporary edge. Over the course of their career, Väsen has released numerous critically acclaimed albums, toured extensively across Europe, North America, and Asia, and built a dedicated international following.

Renaissance and Baroque instruments including 2 bass Viola da gambas, Renaissance guitar, vielle, 2 lutes, baroque oboe, nyckelharpa.
Mandolins - including octave mandolin, instruments ranging from beginner to advanced.
Guitars- all styles of acoustics including small children’s instruments, travel guitars, classical and steel string
Ukuleles- all 4 sizes. Beginner to high quality
Violins and Violas- many fine, vintage German instruments, new violins, a few children’s sizes
Also, lots of banjos, bagpipes, dulcimers, world instruments including Swedish and Norwegian instruments.
Timbre Folk and Baroque is open for sales and repairs. Mark is in the shop 9am-5pm weekdays and is happy to help with any instrument needs.
